01. The First Book of Electricity – Interior Front & Back Cover Spreads
Author: Sam & Beryl Epstein. Illustrator: Robin King.

A few months back at the public library’s gargantuan used book sale, I picked up this 1953 gem of a children’s book, The First Book of Electricity, published by Franklin Watts, Inc. in NYC. Above and below are a selection of my favorite illustrations by Robin King. I am particularly drawn to the strong red + black hues plus the spare style and color palette. It’s simultaneously grown-up and kid friendly as well.

Love this! I’ve been collecting lots of vintage science books from the 60s for my little shop. It’s going to be difficult to part with them.

What a cool find! I really like the first print and the rest of the book looks cool as well! Just came across your blog today (via Return to Bohemia) and am so enjoying it! Will be visiting again soon, love the graphics you have chosen to feature!
