“In response to a MRI brain scan taken while hospitalized, artist Lee Tracy created an installation of thirty-five Cerebral Light Boxes which were exhibited at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago. Depending on the location of the brain scan, the image will vary slightly in hue from warm to cool. (Each handwritten) etching is a quote from Lee’s journal written during her recovery.” –Ashes & Milk

01. It is Always All About You – Lightbox No. 3
I am particularly drawn to Lee’s series after having spent my first career in the medical industry where I hold my masters. I worked specifically with neuro patients so patient MRI brain scans were part of the fabric of my job. Also, after having been through serious illness and subsequently having had a MRI brain scan myself I find these works extra poignant. The handwritten journal entries etched into the film are icing on the cake. These limited edition Cerebral Lighboxes are now available at Ashes & Milk which is an online gallery space offering a curated collection of artist works in nuances of white, brown and grey.
