UK graphic design student Jonathan Chapman (aka mrYen) is exceedingly talented with a scalpel as you can see above, bearing witness to a steady eye and hand plus superior concentration. Both his paper cut art and other typographic work are very fresh and experimental, a real treat to look upon. His paper art is inspired by a variety of things such as Germanic paper cutting (Scherenschnitte), patterns, nature and hand drawn typography. More information about Jonathan:

I’m in my third year, studying a BA hons in Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art & Design, I’m 24 years old and I create paper cut art and graphic design with a focus on typography, even though I like to play around with illustrations and photography too. All my designs are created by me and are hand cut with the exception of these lampshades which are cut by machine on vinyl.

I’m currently working on University briefs that all have paper-cutting as a theme with advertising and promotion as a focus, and one of these briefs is to create a papercut design for an Alice in Wonderland Book cover for the Puffin award competition. (Updates and work in progress can be seen on my blog—where I have a weekly Work In Progress (WIP) post on Wednesdays. There I show whatever I am working on at the moment.) I regularly update my blog and flickr with little personal experiments and ideas and I also add some of the more successful and interesting designs to my shop, where I can also create custom designs.
