“The Mighty Monarch of all Melodramas”… aka the pioneering and iconic grand poohbah stop motion animation flick whose main character was conceived and created by U.S. filmmaker Merian C. Cooper. This classic film was based on Mr. Cooper’s strange dream about a giant ape wreaking havoc in New York City. He then recorded the ordeal when he awoke. And as they say, the rest is history.

Somehow, black-and-white films seem to resonate more visually. No matter how obvious it is that Kong is a puppet, there’s still something impressive about seeing his form atop the Empire State Building.

I’ll take King Kong over Avatar any day.
