All it took was a glance at one image created by Franco Grignani to make me a fan. A designer, artist, photographer and architect, he was interested in the study of perceptual processes experimenting with photograms, photomontages, overlays and drawings based on theories of perception, particularly on the psychology of form. In 1950, Grignani took over the trade press advertising for Alfieri & Lacroix, a Milanense printing, engraving and lithographic firm. The campaigns, for which he also wrote the copy, created a strong brand identity for the company. Bold, intelligent and fun, the ads did not directly address the product instead alluded to the medium. Grignani was prolific during his time at Alfieri and Lacroix, so I’m looking forward to discovering much more of his work.

Sandi. Here is a big hint. It looks like Grignani’s designs refer to the effects that can be done with various camera filters in Photo Type setting.
I belive Grignani used thes Photo typesetting effects in his designs.
James Craig published a book called “Photo Type a design manual”
I will use Grignani’s designs along with examples form James Craig’s book
in my presentation at the TYPO Conference in Brelion next week.

Caio!

Todd
