Another book find from the thrifts a few months back. The cover design and illustration are terrifically rich along with the smart red inside covers and interior text proudly set in Baskerville, “a typeface that embodies features of both traditional and modern designs”. Super heavyweight cover stock, a classy and substantial book overall. You can find copies of it at Alibris and Amazon or of course possibly other out of print book dealers.

French illustrator Tomi Ungerer (1931-) is well known for his children’s books, social satire and controversial adult work. His iconic advertising campaigns and political posters against the Vietnam War and Racial Injustice are also well recognized.

In 2003, Ungerer was selected as the first Ambassador for Childhood and Education by the European Council. Four years later the Tomi Ungerer Museum opened in his home town of Strasbourg. It has been voted one of the 10 best museums in Europe by the European Council.
