Apollo 11

Apollo 11 Giveaway!

by Amy@AQ-V on July 28, 2009

In celebration of this month’s 40 year anniversary of the landing of the first man on the moon, I bring you the marvelous illustration work of Katie Allen. She is one super talented young illustrator from London currently pursuing her BA in illustration in Southampton and is set to graduate in 2010. Katie has offered up a great set of typographic Apollo 11 postcards for a lucky AQ-V reader! Be sure to make the jump below to see the cards and learn how to get your shot at acquiring them.

Above and below are selections from Katie’s The First Man on the Moon project. I was immediately taken in by her super fresh style that is rich with freestyle line work, typography and collage. These illustrations telling the story of Apollo 11 were created for the 2009 Macmillan Prize for Children’s Book Illustrations. This picture book was designed for children under age 7. Katie explains, “It was important to me to fill the pages with lots of snippets and facts about the journey, which allowed me to have a lot of fun using typography.”

Katie’s consistent integration of illustrative type throughout the book gives such life to these pieces. I have encouraged her to offer these as prints for sale. Don’t you agree? Glad to hear she is currently setting up shop and will soon be selling a selection of these plus more of her illustration work online. Please visit her website for more details.

It was hard to narrow this down to just a small sampling of these fabulous Apollo 11 works. You will definitely want to see the entire set of illustrations right here. Plus stay tuned, I will be interviewing Katie for a special feature coming this fall.

And now for the giveaway…
