Above are the beautifully decadent, handmade Massin-esque typographic collage works of graphic design student Javier Vázquez in Argentina. Javier keenly mixes a heavy portion of type and letterforms in solo or in tandem with a judicious measure of photographic images, all with exciting results. I asked him to tell us more about himself and his work:
I’m a graphic design student at Buenos Aires University (UBA) in Argentina. Since I was a kid I’ve realized about my passion for the letters and images in general and the fact of cut and paste them in many different ways. As I grow up and with the knowledge acquired at the University and other courses taken, I started to “make sense” of that work I was doing, almost intuitive—compositions, rules, directions, weight of the elements and use of the plane. I consider myself influenced by the art and graphic style of different movements such as Dadaism, Constructivism, Massin‘s work and others. I also love to take photos with different cameras, especially love black & white pictures and the Holga style! Nowadays I work as a graphic designer in a freelance way and this year I’ve started as a beginner auxiliary in a Typographic cathedra at the University.
