Visualizing Anger
by Petar Pavlov | Skopje, Macedonia
The goal of this project was to visualize anger. Even though we usually connect this emotion with very intense visuals, I decided to take a more subtle, poetic approach. After a month of thorough research, which included reading about the signs and phases of anger, as well as the reasons which cause it, I formed a clear idea of my direction.
The correlation between the needle and the balloon tells us that no matter how hard we try to control our anger, the danger of ‘exploding’ is always present. In this world, a metaphorical connection is established between the balloon inflation size and the anger phase. Bigger inflation size—bigger chances for the head to ‘explode’. –Petar Pavlov

I like this idea!
revenge is sweet and even in anger, can be very subtle! I’m sitting here with a smile on my face…. thank you AV for brightening up a very dull Monday!
Very interesting representation. I have written about the PH spectrum of the ‘Happy’ emotions and the ‘Sad’ ones. The happy ones all parade one way, but the sad ones bifurcate between those stewing in one’s own emotional juices and those which wag and point fingers of blame at a gnawing external source; Downcast/Discomfited – Sorrowful/Cut up – Morose/Bitter – Miserable/Stricken – Despairing/Repining – Anguished/Tormented – Suicidal/Baneful.
The curious thing is just how few words we are possessed of to ascribe to the emotions, especially if you compare that to the synonyms for a word like drunk or chastise.
Of course in Shakespeare’s time they ascribed colours to the humours of emotion, phlegm, blood, black & yellow bile. There’s a palette worth re-examining and maybe expanding
A really well thought out concept; captures the tension of building anger perfectly. I sometimes wish I could pop my head…
Thank you guys for all the great comments! Glad this one struck a chord. Petar’s work is fantastic, conceptually strong… yes.
And Marc, you always make a welcome addition… from a linguistic and writer’s perspective. Thank you! Good point re: the narrow number of words assigned to emotions.
Thank you for the constructional comments. It’s always nice to see a blog where the readers want to share their opinion.
Judging by the comments (including the ones from other blogs) it appears that this word Anger can really brighten up things :-)
Petar, thanks for stopping by! And yes, who knew *Anger* could bring so many smiles. :) Please keep up the ace work, look forward to seeing more.
Amy – glad to have found your site through IamCreative’s blog post about you. I can see now why he finds inspiration here. This is a really cool photo too.
