In 1966 Stuart Ash of Gottschalk + Ash designed the keen Canadian Confederation Centennial logomark, a maple leaf comprised of 11 equilateral triangles to represent the 10 Canadian provinces and the territories. As seen below, I recently came across a souvenir plate with an appropriation of Mr. Ash’s original logo. Must confess, I do not think the addition of the bold black outline does the beautiful mark any favors but is it a handsome bit of history nonetheless.
Stuart Ash and Fritz Gottschalk founded G+A in Montreal in 1966. Multiple honors and awards later, they both remain at the head of the firm today with offices in Toronto and Zürich. Mr. Gottschalk is a native of Switzerland and has maintained dual citizenship there and Canada since 1968. View samples of the company’s present work on their website and at the AGI > 1 + 2.
