Wayne Brezinka is a nationally award-winning illustrator and designer with quite an impressive and diverse client list. His work is remarkably smart and conceptually driven, handcrafted and exciting. I first learned of Wayne when he was ballyhooed in Communication Art‘s “Fresh” column back in 2008. And let’s face it, it’s impossible to forget a name like Wayne Brezinka.

I am privileged to present a selection of his terrific creativity and craftsmanship and look forward to doing a full blown interview feature with him in coming weeks so stay tuned. Follow the “see more” links above to his blog where he chronicles his works and working process, often showing us his initial thought process and sketches for these projects.

I asked Wayne for some back story:

I’ve always been interested in art. I remember being held back from recess in the 2nd grade because my coloring assignment was not completed… and I liked it. I would color, I would draw, I would try and write down every line to various Muppet shows just so that I could re-create a show of my own with my home made Muppet cut outs—I mounted them on Popsicle sticks.

I exhausted every art class in high school before my ninth grade stint was complete. I found comfort in creativity. It made me feel at home. I loved to go to my home town “mom and pop” art store in Little Falls, Minnesota and pore through their various art supplies. Drawing pencils, paint brushes, watercolor paper, kneaded erasers, I couldn’t get enough!

Making things is in my blood. I feel most alive when I create. I’m 41 years old today and I still make stuff. Collage and mixed media is my passion. I am blessed to be able to feed my family with my craft. I hope that what I create brings you some joy. My creativity is a gift and I am grateful for it.
