Striking paper collage works by artist Chyrum Lambert are infused with an abstract modernist vibe—a bold play on color, pattern, rhythm and form. These featured works are part of a much larger set of “tiles” in his metacreative project plainly entitled The Paper Tile Game. Chyrum designed this expanding project as “a creative idea game used for generating new thoughts, new ideas, strengthening creative function or for solving creative dilemmas.” The tiles can be rotated any way you choose, there is no top or bottom, nor left or right.

More information:
The player makes associations with the images in combinations of three tiles and squeezes them into a single, unified thought. Three tiles per hand make for thousands of possible combinations as well as for altering particular associations with single tiles. Connections are made between players to string together a narrative structure based upon a predetermined title, subject matter, or dilemma for each round. Each different player builds upon the narrative the other players have set into motion. There is no competition here, only the movement of thought into spheres where intellectual or ‘reasonable’ deduction cannot reach. As is well known, creative play becomes nonexistent once a formula has been introduced, so let me say that this game was not intended to become a type of recipe for creativity, but for strengthening your faith in its sometimes unruly behavior, I can hope that it would help to supply an engaging workout.
