Cooler weather always means layers, and this rule goes double for lips. For one, it’s vital to keep your pout hydrated and protected from the weather, but more than that, women are just really into new fall colors and playing-up the latest lipstick tricks for Fall.
Matte, Satin, Stain, Shimmer, & Hydration
Lipsticks are divided into five general categories:
- Matte
- Creme
- Long-Wearing
- Gloss; and
- Lip Plumper
At the top of the list, you’ve got thick, pigment-rich, lipsticks that are ideal for creating that sophisticated satin lips look this fall. Long-wearing formulas are also a good choice if you are one of those girls that smile more often than not because you don’t want to end up with red and purple lipstick accenting your pearly whites. Sheer and shimmery glosses and neutral-tone lip plumpers can be applied as a base or atop a favorite shade.
Lipstick Tricks for Fall
One of the hottest trends for fall is using a deep-toned eyeliner to line the lip before filling it in with bold, matte color. First, select a shade of lipstick and then line the lips after the lipstick is applied. The shape of the lip will gain a gorgeous 3D effect and from there, apply either powder (to seal-on color) or gloss to finish rich, satin lips look.
Fall is an easy time to wear makeup, especially lipstick because it brings color to paling complexions and it’s noticeable like a signature accessory, perhaps a fine pair of earrings, or a favorite bag. The trick to rocking lipstick is having a good lip-care routine in place:
- Smooth Lips (Exfoliate)
- Use Balm or Chapstick
- Get Creative (Mix Color!)
- Blot Lips after Color is Applied; and
- Use a Sealer (Think, Shimmer Powder)
To get really smooth lips (do not peel the little “hangnail” skin off your pout!) Simply dip a finger (you’ll need to lick it first, so bonus) into regular old white sugar. Once the sugar is on your finger, lick your lips and scrub back and forth with your finger, any dry lip skin will come right off to reveal the smoothest kisser ever!
Always apply chapstick or lip balm after you exfoliate or brush your teeth. For one, the product will settle into any cracks you may have and it will create a surface that color will actually stick to. After lipstick is applied, use a paper towel (rather than toilet paper, because it will stick to your lips in annoying pieces) to “blot” lips. This does two things, it removes excess lip color that will end up on your teeth at the most inopportune moment, and it gently presses color down into the lips to “set” it.
Finally, you can’t go wrong mixing colors. Channel your inner Picasso and just go for it. Deep purples and blues accentuate rosy reds and pale pinks, greens and black play-up orange-reds and pastels. The trick to lipstick this fall is bold = beautiful!
