Download the entire Destination Moon film free from the Internet Archive. I have included the kitschy 1950 movie trailer at the bottom of this post. You might also enjoy snickering at the Woody Woodpecker feature animation illustrating the basics of space flight which accompanied the original film. It’s actually quite educational.
These gorgeous black and white photographs were shot on the 1950 film set by LIFE photographer Allan Grant (1918-2008) who was responsible for an extensive amount of iconic imagery for the magazine. Of note, Mr. Grant did the last photo shoot with Marilyn Monroe just weeks before her death. He also took the first pictures of Marina Oswald just hours after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Learn more about Mr. Grant in his 2008 obituary in the LA Times. And see more of his remarkable photography work here.
