The prestigious Warsaw International Poster Biennale (IPB) was first held in 1966, co-founded by Polish artist Józef Mroszczak (1910-1975) who served as its chairman until the time of his death. If you are familiar with this event you well know many of the finest names in the creative industry have been associated with the Biennale over its ongoing lifespan. Since 1994, the Wilanów Poster Museum in Poland has organized the IPB and hosted the poster exhibit. The museum itself is quite a destination, boasting one of the largest collections of art posters in the world—over 55,000 works and counting. Anyone I know who has had the good fortune to visit the museum swoons about it. Needless to say, it is on my ‘to do’ list.

I’m lucky enough to live just a five minute walk away from Wilanow Poster Museum – it is indeed a fantastic place to visit. Love that you are featuring Polish design.
Oh how fabulous, Louise! Now I know who to visit when I make it over that way. ;)

These are just stunning… I too would love to go to this! I have long been in love with the art of the Polish ‘plakat’ — and I often wonder what it is that makes them so strong in this realm. They are really miles ahead of everyone else!
Hi Maralina, thanks for the conversation!
Have you seen Andrea Marks documentary film, Freedom on the Fence? It is a great work and addresses the history of Polish poster art and the irony of how it flourished under communism including its golden era. I attended a screening of the film recently and heard Andrea lecture. I highly recommend it. Here is the website:

There is an excellent ‘history’ section on the site and artist bios in addition of course to the film trailer. Definitely worth seeing.
Thanks again!
