Brilliant concept and execution—east-west type tables are the collaborative effort of Melbourne-based designers Saori Kajiwara and Matt Innes. Made of several layers of hardwood ply, these tables have a handsome striation of tones on the edge and are hefty in weight.
The concept for this project is to explore the idea of Japanese typographic forms as furniture. East / HIGASHI (東) + West / NISHI (西). Reads horizontally or vertically stacked. Size is 500x500x240mm per character. Compound word is TOZAI (東西) meaning east-west or the wider world.
